I needed a few comfy articles of clothing to accommodate my expanding waistline...
Awhile back I bought a skirt on ebay that has a smocked waistband and it quickly became my favorite. So I decided to try making a few of my own!
This first skirt....I bought a short one at Goodwill and used the smocked waistband, adding my own concoction of fabric to the bottom.
JoAnn Fabrics has bolts of smocked material, so I picked out a piece of border fabric and some matching smocking. Miss G. was QUITE pleased with the matching sundresses I made for her and baby Sophie :)
As always, I'm never overly thrilled with the things I make....but they work for everyday wear!
Saturday, we made a trip to Hobby Lobby. I've been wanting to go look for yarn for one of these.....

...now hanging by the kitchen table. My dream kitchen is some sort of Paris Cafe' style....black, white, and red.....maybe even black and white checkered flooring :) I'm slowly working on it, but it'll never happen in this rental house. Not with my orange countertops!

Saturday, we had planned to go to a school auction. We wanted some lockers for the garage. My mom happened to stop at a garage sale on Friday, which was right around the corner, and they had some lockers there! I ran out to take a look at them and ended up getting them! We still have a long way to go in our garage organization, but we're thrilled to have these lockers. There's 12 in all (another 6 that opens from the other side)...so Eric figured we could have 12 kids now. "Ha ha", is all I had to say about that! Well, I take that back, I *may or may not* have said more :)
Sunday, Eric mentioned that he would like a 'greensleeve' like the one I have. It's a fabric sleeve for coffee cups. I got mine at Winan's and told him I could buy another one, but he didn't want a girly one...maybe jean or something :) So yesterday, I made a trip to the local fabric store, found a remnant of blue and brown fleece, came home and whipped one out. Today, I decided to make a few more. Here's my girly one and the three jean ones I just finished sewing...
They really are quick and easy! I'm keeping them in mind for gifts :)So there you have it....a few of the things that have been keeping me busy.
A little background here....
I had gotten a frozen lasagna at the grocery one week because it was on sale...and it sounded kinda good to this preggo mama. It was a different kind than we'd had before and it obviously had anise in it. Now I am NOT a fan of anise flavor, black licorice, etc...and I should have just kept my mouth shut at the dinner table. I was (and am) still a little 'gaggy' at textures/tastes and quietly mentioned to Eric that there was something not tasting right to me. Then the boys started complaining..... Needless to say, with a large lasagna, there were leftovers and I didn't want to hear it! They WERE going to eat the leftovers!
So the next few days, there were conversations overheard about anise and black licorice and flavors and, and, and.
One night later that week, the kids tucked in bed, Eric and I were in the kitchen talking. All of the sudden he got the weirdest look on his face.....I turned around to see what he was looking at.
THIS is what we saw....
He was wondering WHY IN THE WORLD the boys had spelled ANUS on the fridge!!!!
I immediately knew what was going on....it was a simple misspelling of anise :) We laughed till our sides hurt!
Since the boys were not yet asleep, I called for them to come out to the kitchen....I had a little spelling lesson for them! Sure enough, they had thought they spelled anise. I explained it was spelled anIsE, then explained what anUs was. "Or a cloaca!" R. piped up!!! Of course they thought their spelling error was hilarious, as did we.
You just never know WHAT you might find on our fridge!
I have so many posts that need to be typed up....it feels hopeless! But there is one less post I'll have to do, cause I'll just direct you to my friend's blog, where she is hosting a giveaway! We got together at the end of January for a much longed for and planned event, soap making! Many hours were spent searching the web for recipes, techniques, etc. Then we finally got our things together and did it! We had a blast! And now that the soap is cured, we are enjoying using it!
I'll let you get all the details on her blog, but I MUST warn you of some hideous pictures! OH MY!

I'm not exactly sure how I ever came across FPFG's blog....but I'm hooked. We have a little bit in common...I'll let you figure out what. She has the neatest taste in easy, crafty decorate-y stuff! Stuff I never can quite make myself do, but I still like it anyway. Whatever that means. She makes me laugh...and sometimes cry.... She loves her family and her Savior. And boy can she write!
